TEXTURES/How Do You Feel?

An International CGS Online Glass Exhibition hosting 51 selected CGS Members.

This is a selling show, so please contact artists directly to purchase work or make an enquiry.

“Texture can defined as the tactile quality of an object’s surface. Within art, it can appeal to our sense of touch, which can evoke an emotional response. Texture is the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface. Just like 3D forms, texture can be implied or real. Texture can be created through tactile possibilities: cutting, building, tearing or layering of materials, for example.”

This was a CGS juried show, and was launched on 8th May 2021

Title:Strange Creature III

Description: Unique hand made cast glass figurative sculpture using the lost wax and patte de verre technique. Working with glass as my medium is always interesting. Using the lost wax technique I am able to create my own unique forms using wax giving me the capability to sculpt with the detail I require. Casting them in glass makes the forms permanent with the addition of vast range of colours, characteristi

A ruin symbolises the unpredictable, the fateful, but also the transitory. Most people keep their distance from decay, which irrevocably leads to death. Yet some are attracted to it. Title:Craving I - series of Wall Art

Description: I create a range of glass art works and sculptures using the theme of Petrol Rainbows and representing the my manipulating layers of Iridised glass. These oil and water reactions are a visual treat, everyone one is different and I love to stumble across them when out walking.

The Craving Series consists of a number of circular panels of varying sizes, from 5cm (the smallest) to 28cm (the largest). These can be purchased individually or as a set and are designed to be versatile, displayed in any formation the buyer chooses.

The flip side is that these iridescent rainbows are a form of pollution, petrol/oil being leaked and washed into our waterways. I seek to engage the viewer to contemplate the impact of man on our environment while creating appealing contemporary art for the home or office .

Title:Eryngii Jars

Description: Series of blown glass jars with wood-turned lids, as a craft collaboration between Catriona and woodturner Bob Hastie, who lives on the Isle of Mull. These pieces are inspired by their shared love of the woods and being close to the earth. The textures and shapes of the pieces are inspired by the materials of the forest and the mycology life found there. Both Catriona and Bob feel a sanctuary with being close to the land, and in fact, that is how they met.
Catriona started a tributary to her business called FRITH Glassware in late 2019/early 2020 which cemented her belief of touch within her work providing comfort. She wanted to break the barrier between the viewer and the material, by creating tactile work that encourages touch, massages the hand, and promotes wellbeing as a result.

Glass is captivating because it allows to work on the surface as well as on the inner matter of the sculpture. Considering the inside of the volume while giving the light an essential role is one of my main concerns.
Pâte de verre allows me to explore many themes like the relation between the outside and the inside, the right side up and the upside down, fullness and void, opacity and transparency.

Title:Fusion

Description: Fused, slumped, sandblasted and burnished glass with thread
This form relates to the concept of dualities like charged particles or people, sometimes opposites attract and create a unified whole in spite of their difference. Contrast is important in my work including the texture of the piece: soft/hard, straight curved, smooth/rough.
