Current Exhibition

“Ordinary to Extraordinary” launched on the 7th March 2022

“We are all increasingly concerned about the planet and our impact upon it. How do we live more sustainably especially as we work with a material that does little to help our carbon footprint?
This exhibition challenged glass artists worldwide to produce work using recycled glass in some form – this could be an empty wine bottle, old glass containers through to scrap glass that they would normally throw out.

We invited glass artists worldwide, to enter a CGS online selling show that responded to the above topic. We will be sharing the 48 artists on our socials over the coming weeks to highlight their work and inspiration.

If you have any questions about these gallery exhibitions, or taking part in our next shows, please email info@cgs.org.uk

This show was launched on the 7th March 2022.

All our shows from now on have the capability to be selling shows.

Buyers should please contact the artists directly.

Launched on:7th March 2022

Title:Cobbledy Dish

Description: A shallow platter which started out as a light cream peach and orange draped vase. It cracked, was broken up and the pieces made into cobbles. The cobbles were fused onto a circle of clear and this was made into a drop-out vase. It didn't function as a vase so I broke it up and made cobbles again. They were fused onto a square of clear and slumped into a dish.

Title:Amphora of Light and Shade

Description: Inspired by the glass techniques of Mark Pieser and Matthew Szosz, and the methods developed to manipulate a stream of molten glass directly from a furnace.
Inspired by these techniques to create “AMPHORA of Light and Shade”, panels of glass were produced directly from the gas furnace in the vitrigraph style, then fused on a bed of silica, before slumping on a ceramic fibre board mould.

Description: I sometimes make meals by combining several portions of leftovers. We refer to the meal as 'leftovers surprise'. The results vary.
The piece of glass forming the shape of the body and tail of this bird was an interestingly shaped off-cut from another project. The other glass bits layered on are similarly left over from stained glass work. Even the wire feet came from a casualty. The log was found.

Title:Nature Preserves

Description: Wine bottles were broken and melted on the torch to create natural elements assembled in a scene of small details. It is an effort to return discarded glass to nature. These bottles may take more than 4000 years to decompose. The thought of the quantity of discarded glass on our planet is mind boggling. "Nature Preserved" aims to remind us of our interconnectedness with our environment.

Description: Along the course of our lives we are bound to go through losses. It is key that we become flexible and fluid so as to adapt to new situations and bring out the best out of them. In this artwork I want to reflect the beauty of surrending to events that we cannot control and building a new point of view, which is not necessarily weaker or unpleasant but all the contrary.
