A POSTCARD FROM…..

A show inspired by Alan J Poole and a CGS selling online exhibition

27th February – 31st March 2021 www.cgs.org.uk

Through these difficult times, our minds sometimes wander to happy days, holidays and gatherings or just places we love to visit. So here we are – back in lockdown and this is an opportunity to take your minds off to distant shores and view inspired postcard size work by CGS members.

Alan J Poole invited our 950 members to make a small piece of work with a view or reference to somewhere that means something to them.

Take a look and enjoy fun pieces to lift your spirits..

58 CGS Members decided to take part in the exhibition which was launched on 27th February 2021.

All pieces of work are for sale at £50, £100 or £150. Please contact the artists direct to buy work.

The Fish n Chips is hot and dripping,
Children are screaming and playing,
Windsurfers are gliding and dipping.

Title:Serenity is Yours

Description: This postcard represents a gathering from September 2020 in Cardiff. It was called Happy in my skin. This was where thirty women gathered together. Socially distanced of course. An artist called Hazel created this gathering. It's purpose was for body positivity, to empower and support each other as beautiful women. No matter what age, ethinicity, shape or size anyone was. We dropped our robes and ran into the sea together. This was the most liberated, free and at peace with just being myself that I think I have ever felt. This gave me a new sense of serenity. The glass works as a result were named Slices of Serenity. There were five of us in our group. This postcard represents everything about that day. The feelings we felt as we were on our own personal journey. As well as the five of us there. Standing strong together. It is a moment in time that I never want to forget.

Title:Window to another world: Rockpool 1.

Description: This is a unique fused glass piece set into a turned piece of ash wood based on holidays on the coast as a child messing around in rockpools. LED lighting (supplied by mains electric) allows the sculpture to become a focus in a room during the evening, then natural light filters through the coloured glass during the day.

Diamond sparkled water, rolling to and fro,
Pebbles turning gently in the tides ebb and flow,
Rock pools of life, shallow, own worlds within,
Anemones opening, sifting life’s silt,
Crabs scurrying gently, in their sideways gait,
Searching their world, snapping, small finger bait.

Title:Hide - St Mary's, Isles of Scilly

Description: In May of 2019 I walked around the coastline of the island of St Mary's, 28 miles from the Cornish mainland. Detouring to look at a lagoon, I was taken with a bird hide, a still sheltered space that framed the landscape outside. This glass postcard, Hide, is one of a series that have evolved from the idea of looking out from a quiet space. It comes with a transparent fitting on the back for mounti

Description: This silly little poem should help explain the sentiment in my postcard;

Pack your bags; we’re ready to go…
To the seaside, the tide is low!
To look at the sea glisten and glow,
And colourful beach huts stretched out in a row.

Seagulls in the sky are squawking,
The Fish n Chips is hot and dripping,
Children are screaming and playing,
Windsurfers are gliding and dipping.
