Seminar Outline by Ian Chadwick:
"The ‘career’ is defined as the individual’s metaphorical journey through learning, work, and other aspects of life.
I never had a determined drive to follow glass as my eventual career, but glass regularly intervened to have an unconscious influence upon the direction of my life and my career path.
The progression of my career in glass was very gradual and linear to where I find myself now, and despite being involved in art and glass for 30 years, I still consider myself near the beginning of my journey.
My practice has always been more concerned with the process of production rather than the concept. My drive has always been to realise the pattern focused aesthetic present within my work and to continually strive through improvement of technique and process to achieve levels of geometric precision which is entirely unique in the world of glass art.
In my seminar I will endeavour to reveal how life and education have influenced the course of my career and how this has influenced my approach to glass production. I will share my experiences of overcoming problems in design and how the pursuit of a technique can manifest new ideas. I will discuss how a deeper understanding of your artistic goals and a clarity of your artistic vision can help your glass to ultimately acquire its unique artistic identity."
