Seminar: Film to Glass and Back Again with Jane Bruce
Concept to Creation Series: From Film to Glass and Back Again, with Jane Bruce
In this illustrated talk, Jane will give an insight into what drives the development of her work and how she approaches the creative process. Learn from this renowned glass artist, whose work has been exhibited in many major museums around the world, including the V&A.
Seminar Outline by Jane Bruce:
"Intent on becoming a film and theatre designer and eventually a film director, I received an undergraduate degree in 3-D Design with a specialization in Interior Design. However, shortly before graduating, I got side-tracked by the presence of a new glass furnace in a corner of the ceramics workshop. My design and film career went up in the heat of that furnace and I walked away from graduate school three years later as a full-fledged member of the UK Studio Glass movement. Now with much distance and time, I realize that the work—be it in glass or more recently drawing and video— is about defining space and the viewer’s particular interaction with it.
Using those series that have been most pivotal to my development, I will talk about what triggered each body of work, how they evolved, and what drove me to move on from one to the next. I will also discuss my creative process showing how I do considerable research involving drawings, models, and tests before commencing with final statements."
