Seminar: Artists Journey with Evelyn Gottschall Baker
Concept to Creation Series: The Artist's Journey with Evelyn Gottschall Baker
In this illustrated talk Evelyn will share her journey as an artist and how her interesting life's journey has informed her art.
Seminar Outline by Evelyn:
"My journey to becoming a glass artist has included many diversions along the way. After leading a full life as a Graphic Artist and later as a Test Engineer for the US Government, my art was always a side gig. After retirement, I was finally able to focus on what I really enjoyed – to pursue a life as a glass artist. It was at this time that I realized that all the diversions and side trips in my life helped to form me, and ultimately, my art.
I’d like to share my journey with you, how and why I made the difficult decision to continue the professional track I had started instead of pursuing one as an artist when I had that chance. How I transitioned from the mediums of watercolor and oil paints to stained glass, and finally to one in kiln-formed glass. I’ll explain my approach to experimenting with glass paste, which led to the discovery for a new way to form and fire Patè de Verre work. Through it all, it was my professional background that shaped me for the art I now enjoy making. Is there a future in the glass world for what I do? I hope so and will share some ideas I have on how to make that happen."
