£20,475 pa + (company bonus scheme after Jan. 2020).
Short-term contract until Xmas 2019 (Accommodation included)

Cumbria Crystal is seeking to appoint a glassblower, initially on a short-term basis, to assist with the delivery of public Glassblowing Bauble Experiences in the run up to Christmas (23rd December).
Accommodation in Ulverston, English Lake District, will be provided until Christmas.
After Christmas, depending on customer feedback & performance, a full-time post may be created (subject to application, interview & customer feedback).

• To deliver income generating glass-blowing experiences to members of the public visiting the Lake District until December 23rd 2019. To be reviewed afterwards.
• Responsibility for the delivery & smooth running of day-to-day glassblowing activities.
• A 5/7 working week may be required, ie. may include some weekends.
• Production of small stock items for sale in the Factory Shop.
• Ensure the highest standards of customer experience & service are maintained.
• Work closely with key staff to ensure products are prepared & marked for collection &/or dispatch.
• Organise charging the furnace; lighting glory holes; ensure materials and safety equipment are available and used appropriately.
• Occasional work with the Production Team, glass processing staff & assist with other duties as requested by the Operations Manager.

Person Specification:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Glass, or equivalent experience.
• Significant glass blowing & cold working experience.
• Experience & confidence to deliver income generating public workshop programmes.
• Fluent English speaking.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Demonstrable strong time-management and organisational skills and an ability to work under pressure.
• Ability to communicate clearly, openly, enthusiastically and effectively with the public.
• Good understanding of Health & Safety issues relating to glass making.
• Take instruction well.
• Have a positive attitude and strong work ethic.
• Have basic computer and social media skills.
• Respect and consideration towards colleagues.
• Ability to work independently on your own initiative and within a team.
• Reliable trustworthy and a good time keeper.
• Attention to detail, care and respect for the craftsmanship and time involved in making the products.
• Excellent craftsmanship and a willingness to learn.

• The glassmaking heritage and use of traditional techniques means every aspect of the creative process is done by hand. The crystal is completely mouth-blown and hand-cut on diamond wheels.

• It is hardly surprising Cumbria Crystal it is the crystal of choice for all the British Embassies, many Royal Families and luxury stores worldwide. It has been featured in numerous period dramas including five series of Downton Abbey, James Bond and Darkest Hour, to name a few, as it epitomised quality, luxury living and aspirational lifestyle.

• Founded in 1976 by the famous Cavendish family, whose estate is nearby, the company was created to preserve traditional British crafts. Lady Grania Cavendish designed the Grasmere Collection used in Downton Abbey, which remains the most iconic of all the Collections to this day. A close relationship with the Cavendish family and Estate continues.

• Recently new Collections have been developed to reinvigorate the brand and appeal to the millennial market. New concepts have been developed through partnerships with MA & PhD students from the Royal College of Art.

It produced a tumbler Collection for the new Continental GT and in 2018 developed a decanter and tumbler collection for the Mulsanne, W.O. Edition by Mulliner, limited to 100 units to celebrate to centenary of the company. Most recently the company partnered with Bentley on the development of a crystal Artificial Intelligence interface in the EXP100GT, the 100th anniversary concept car outlining the vision of the company until 2035.

• A selection of Glassblowing Experiences have been introduced and are currently delivered 5 days a week (Saturday to Wednesdays inclusive) in 2018. Due to the popularity of the Lake District as a holiday destination the they have become increasingly popular. To date we estimate that around 1500 people have participated. This appointment is intended to enable us to grow the offer and support our existing staff better.
