In 2017 Amanda Moriarty, a long serving Board member and Honorary Treasurer of CGS passed away, In memory of her enthusiasm and encouragement of glass making we aim to offer an annual prize.
For our second prize in 2019, we have had a very generous donation from Colin Reid, the U.K’s renowned glass artists and Honorary Member of CGS, to give someone two weeks residency in his studio. With the aim to; develop new ideas, produce a new piece of work through to a finished piece.
This would be achieved in two parts;
Week one: develop your ideas and get the work in the kiln.
Week two: come back to the studio when the work has annealed, to cold work and finish the piece.
We are also offering £300 towards costs during the residency.

To celebrate the memory of our wonderful Treasurer, with your help, we have created the Amanda Moriarty Prize.

The photographs that Henri Cartier-Bresson took of Matisse in his seventies, working in his studio, also captured many of the objects that the artist had collected over the decades. Some of these objects appear many times in his work and he wrote of them ‘Objects which have been of use to me nearly all my life’

In May 2019 London Glassblowing will be hosting Inspired, a juried exhibition of work by members of the Contemporary Glass Society. Participants will create a work of art in glass inspired by an object.
