Call to Artists- The naked Craft Project 2019, Artist Residency in Kobe Japan

CGS members are once again being given the opportunity to apply for a residency with fellow glass makers in Japan this Autumn.

Deadline to receive data is 1st May 2019

The Residency will take place during October 2019.
The artist will spend approximately twenty to thirty days in Kobe, exploring new ideas and possibly creating work for an exhibition (to be discussed in more detail when the artist is selected), participating in workshops and seminars arranged through The Naked Craft Project.
During the residency the chosen artist will have free access to Yoshida San’s studio which is equipped with a kiln, sandblaster and polisher.

The studio is located in the Nagata area of Kobe. This is a busy area filled with houses, local businesses and lots of nightlife and interesting places to live. The sea is ten minutes’ walk from the studio and the centre of Kobe is a short train ride away. Kobe itself is a busy of city with a good selection of museums and interesting architecture. It is neighbour to Osaka, one of the biggest cities in Japan and Kyoto, which has world heritage status and an immense store of art and history is also easily reached. Train fare to Osaka is in the region of £4 and takes around an hour. Kyoto is a little further taking around two hours and £8.

Up to £700 will be provided by CGS to cover airfares to & from Kobe. You will have free accommodation whilst you are in Japan, however you will have to cover your food costs.
Studio time and access is also free.

We would like to give a special thanks to;: Prof. Michael Barnes MD FRCP, David Williams, Peter Bloxham and Alan Willis for supporting this project
