The 2020 Amanda Moriarty Prize

Amanda Moriarty’s Memorial Prize 2020

CGS announce Kate Henderson is the winner of the 2020 Amanda Moriarty Prize.

Kate will take up two weeks residency with the renowned Glass Painter, Mark Angus in his studio in Graz Austria in the Autumn 2020. She will be tutored and work alongside Mark, exploring new techniques and developing her work.

“I am delighted to have won the Contemporary Glass Societies - Amanda Moriarty Prize and will be spending two weeks working with Mark Angus in Austria later this year. I am looking forward to this professional development opportunity, developing new techniques in the studio of an esteemed artist whose work I admire. During the residency I plan to try different approaches to mark making, treating glass as a canvas to link my painting and glass work more closely. It is also a chance to focus on new subject matter such as the figure which I have recently started exploring in glass.” Kate Henderson

In 2017 Amanda Moriarty, a long serving Board member and Honorary Treasurer of CGS passed away, In memory of her enthusiasm and encouragement of glass making we offer an annual prize to help a CGS member to fulfil an aspiration or add to their technical skill, something that they would find difficult without this Prize.
Amanda had been a student of Mark’s when he was teaching in the School of Art and Design, Bristol, - 25 years ago, just as she was beginning her own glass journey.

CGS is extremely grateful to Mark Angus for offering this great opportunity for a CGS member to enhance their skills and to develop new ideas.
