HILARY SHIELDS
I discovered glass through adult education, following a career in the pharmaceutical industry. I am fascinated with the properties of glass and the numerous techniques to be experimented with. I make functional and decorative fused and leaded items for the home and garden. I like to use glass powders to give texture and to combine pattern and vibrant colours.
Although based in Kent I spend a number of weeks each year in Fife, Scotland and take inspiration from the coastline, colours and landscape there. I have recently been taking plaster casts of the ripples in the sand to slump glass and evoke memories of the beach.
