Monica Garcia-Alonso

I am a glass artist with a background in biology. This seemingly strange combination means that my glass work is heavily inspired by the natural world, the riot of colours and textures and the amazing biodiversity that inhabits our planet. My background in science makes me curious and ready to explore new techniques, finding projects that are challenging and allow me to continue the process of developing my skills working with glass.

After years of learning different techniques with some real masters in glass, I have been developing some of techniques to find my own style. I am building a collection of insect inspired pieces. My pieces do not aim at representing insects in detail, but they capture what for me is the essence of a particular species. Therefore, the pieces are abstract, but an entomologist should be able to guess the name of the species or group of insects that is represented.
