Laura Johnston

The amazing power of light to transform our experience of space is at the heart of the work of Dr Laura Johnston. Through the innovative application of glass, light and colour, her installations bring an ever-changing dynamism to landscape and architecture. In 1997 Laura completed the UK's first practice based PhD in glass and research continues to inform her practice.

Laura established her practice in 1996 and since then has completed numerous large-scale projects across the UK. Recent commissions include a rotating sculpture at Midlands Arts Centre and a large suspended installation for John Lewis/Waitrose, Horsham. She recently exhibited new work in the ‘Northern Glass Innovations’ show and her work can also be seen at Cheeseburn Sculpture Park, Northumberland. The impact of light on health and well-being are the subject of her current research in partnership with Durham university.
