Susan Kinley

Following my MA at the Royal College of Art, I established a studio in London, moving to Cornwall in the 1990’s to take up a fellowship at Falmouth University. My work has been widely exhibited in the UK and internationally, with awards from Arts Council England, Daiwa Anglo-Japanese Foundation and the David Canter Memorial Fund. Commissions have included the British Embassy in Dublin, the Met Office and Penlee House Art Gallery & Museum, Penzance.

My kilnformed glass wall panels and installations respond to my ongoing exploration of ancient archaeological sites at the edges of Britain, Scotland and Ireland. Waterjet cut piercings in Bullseye glass echo the mapping of land contours and micro lichens on rock surfaces.
A large installation in 25 individual sections, West South West, featured in Collect Open 2019 at the Saatchi Gallery.
I will be exhibiting a new series of fused glass with inlaid enameled copper panels at Collect 2024 at Somerset House, London, from 1st – 3rd March 2024. These works are influenced by aerial photography of ancient sites, where the marks and traces of cairns, barrows, circles and henges emerge in certain lights at different times of the year.
