Julie Anne Denton

“Atelier #315 founder Dr. Julie Anne Denton who is originally from the Isle of Man known as the jewels of the Celtic kingdom, has been working in glass since 2000. She often works as a designer but also sells her individual pieces in venues such as the Saatchi gallery and Tate Britain. After her academic studies in glass & philosophy she completed her one year apprenticeship with glassblower Emilio Santini from the famous Italian island of Murano. Thereafter she extended her studies in the States. She learnt further (secret) techniques in glass from other four other famous glass artists, and she finally rounded off her education with Bertil Vallien of the renowned Swedish design house Kosta Boda (est. 1742). She shows her work in the Netherlands, Luxembourg, UK, Switzerland, Turkey, United States and France. Julie eventually settled in Zürich and opened her own firm atelier #315 in 2017. She works with a small team beside her who all care deeply about creating quality handmade pieces which resonate with her clients for their beauty, workmanship, and authenticity, which ties in, to eachof her collections individual stories."

I am an artist working predominantly through flameworking and sandcast glass. Glass has a unique quality unmatched by either painting or traditional sculpture. It is a special material which can be seen through, giving the visual artist the opportunity to describe concepts which would otherwise be ‘impossible’ to demonstrate through other materials. I use glass as an emblematic representation of things or ideas that are pure but precarious, delicate but destructible, eloquent yet elusive.
