Bex Burston

I make fun and optimistic pieces in fused glass and textiles. I love bright positive colours and imagery from nature, often with influences from retro fabrics, ceramics and wallpaper. Blue Design Shed was established in 2014 by me, Bex Burston. It is based in my garden in a village in South Cambridgeshire. My love of Applied Arts has led over the years to experimentation with everything from ceramics, photography and cake decorating to bookbinding, but I have settled on mostly working with glass and textiles, and occasionally wood and metal. I gained my BTec Art Foundation at the Kent Institute of Art and Design, my BA (Hons) Applied Arts Practice at University of Hertfordshire and my PGDip Arts Management at Anglia Ruskin University.

I sketch ideas, cut fabrics, copper and glass and paint my work in my shed, accompanied and sometimes assisted by my cockapoo, Monty. I fire my work overnight in my kilns in the shed. First thing in the morning, I get to open it and see what time and heat have created.
