Abigail, Street

Glass landscape artist creating kiln-formed and flameworked panels. I am interested in exploring how working in glass, as a painterly medium, can contribute to and impact on the depiction of texture, depth, movement, the luminosity, mutability and the fragility of the natural landscape.

Now Sussex-based, but with a climbing and mountaineering past, I have been fortunate enough to visit some of the most beautiful and atmospheric landscapes in the UK and beyond. I paint vistas that excite me; usually windswept, often dramatic, frequently brooding. To me they represent freedom, raw beauty, energy and peace. Artists have struggled for centuries to represent the luminosity and mercurial nature of the natural environment. As a medium capable of transmitting, reflecting and distorting light, of controllable opacity and translucence and that can be sculpted and layered, glass is an as yet underexplored painting medium.
