The Naked Craft Project is offering a Micro Artist in Residency in Japan this Autumn 2017

The proposed dates for the residency are 25th October - 12th November - but this can be discussed with the selected artist.

We are now taking applications from CGS members, UK based glass artists, for a residency opportunity that will be given to one selected maker.

A CGS panel will select up to 15 applicants to put forward to The Naked Craft Project for the final selection.

You must be a kiln glass artist and will have the opportunity to work in 'Glass an' a studio in Kobe with equipment for kiln working and polishing. You will also have a micro exhibition in Nagata (a provence of Kobe) and Nagahama (a glass town the west side of Japan) both for 3 days.
You may also have the opportunity to hold a workshop in the Glass studio with locals(with a translator), and a presentation at the Kobe Design University in the Craft Faculty.

You will receive your airfare to Japan (It is best to fly into Osaka - you may wish to return from Tokyo after visiting Nagahama) your transport between Kobe and Nagahama is also included. But accommodation, food and materials, freight of your work for the exhibition you will need to fund unless further funding becomes available for you. We can recommend low cost accommodation for the locations and food can be very affordable. Also purchasing a railcard here for your trip is much cheaper than purchasing it once you arrive.

To apply;
Please email 3 images of your work, correctly named with your last name initial, title of work date made & size, together with a statement of why you feel this opportunity would assist your practise and an up to date CV
Deadline 20/03/2017 send to

Please note: this is not a CGS event, we are only facilitating the applications to assist with language barriers.
