What is it about Glass ?.
From a grain of sand.
It is said, “That when a passion absorbs one I becomes an addiction”.
The variety of expressions that are created using this volatile medium are endless, from the day man started melting sand, to the exquisite masterpieces that are on permanent exhibition today are simply mind-blowing, saying this, one needs to have the initial passion, like a seed it continues to grow and blossom.
Notwithstanding that, the alchemy of today is just as explicit. The colours available today are one of my favourite tools. I am always captivated by the scintillating qualities of colour that can be utilised, also developing an instantly recognizable style.
Becoming known for the exquisite palette of coloured glass I use in my pieces, the precision of my skills, and the uncompromising aesthetic quality.
Most of the pieces that I engage with, flow from my absolute love of nature and our immediate surroundings, Expressed without compromise.
Although, in the past I have, manipulated, hot formed and staining glass. The challenge of flame-working intricate forms is reward enough.
It was the contemplation of old stained glass – masterpieces of craftsmanship and spiritual beauty – that stimulated my curiosity and desires to the point of abandoning my old life and embracing a new career. However, it is the contemporary approach to the craft, with the aid of modern technology, methods and processes, that breathes life into new exciting opportunities
