Exhibition - Glass Games: a desire, a dream, a vision
13 – 23 June 2012

The Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) invites artists to submit work for a world-class exhibition of contemporary glass at the prestigious art space, The Gallery in Redchurch Street, London.

This selling show will bring together the excitement of the Olympics and the talent of glassmakers worldwide. It will be the launch event of Glass Games 2012 – the Contemporary Glass Society's festival of exhibitions, workshops and events taking place all over the UK this summer.

"Champions aren't made in gyms; champions are made from something they have deep inside them – a desire, dream, a vision." These are the words of Olympic gold boxer Muhammed Ali. The same passion and commitment can be found in artists as well as sportspeople, and the CGS is inviting glassmakers worldwide to present work that shows the talent, the training and the heart that goes into their art.

Makers may choose to show the sheer virtuosity of their trade; they may express something of the Olympic and Paralympic spirit, or they may take a wide or alternative view of 'games'. They can show existing work or can present a proposal for a piece especially for the show.

The Gallery in Redchurch Street is in one of London's most up-and coming areas, right in the heart of East London and near to the Olympic Games site. There will be gallery events throughout the exhibition, including several previews, a mad hatter's night (the gallery is in an old hat factory) and a grand Glass Games launch to coincide with the official opening of the London 2012 Festival on Midsummer's Eve.

Glass Games 2012 is part of a two-year programme by the CGS to put contemporary glass on the map. From June 1 to September 30, there will be a nationwide celebration of the magic of glass, with exhibitions, workshops, demonstrations, open studios and much more. If you would like to stage an event, contact glassgames2012@gmail.com

Deadline for applications: February 24, 2012

The Contemporary Glass Society (CGS) is widely regarded as the UK's foremost organisation for promoting and encouraging contemporary glass and for supporting glassmakers.
