Title Unpaid saturday glass blowing assistant
Category Job Vacancy
Job Specification I am a full time glass making assistant in London with my own blow time on some Saturdays. If there are any students or other assistants who would be able to assist me i am sure we could figure out either a time swap or for those less experienced some instruction and a chance to make something. This would suit well a student at Farnham or in London, or an assistant in or around London. I will be doing a lot of cane work so anyone who would like to learn about cane may also be interested.

Title the open west - NEW CONTEMPORARY ART OPEN COMPETITION IN GLOUCESTERSHIRE
Category Competition
Main Details the open west is an annual open competition and exhibition, inviting submissions from national and international artists practising contemporary and conceptual art, inclusive of painting, installation, film, photography, print and sculpture.

The organisers, Lyn Cluer Coleman and Sarah Goodwin, are introducing this competition as a means to expand the opportunities to view contemporary art in Gloucestershire. They will curate a high profile exhibition, held in Cheltenham, that will run alongside the town’s annual programme of festivals.

The exhibition, of up to 30 shortlisted artists, will run from 21 February to 27 March 2009. The deadline for applications is 31 October 2008. An application fee of £20 is payable for 6 works (maximum).

A first prize of £2,000 and two additional prizes of £500 will be awarded. The panel of selectors for 2009 will include the curators Lyn Cluer Coleman and Sarah Goodwin, together with Zelda Cheatle of the WMG Photography Fund and Richard Cox of Howard Gardens Gallery, Cardiff.

“Truly ‘open’ exhibitions are unusual, that is to say with few constraints or prescriptions, and as such are a welcome addition to the cultural ecology of the visual arts across the board. For this reason The Open West is most welcome...” (Richard Cox).

There will be an opportunity for artists to participate in an educational programme with local schools and community groups (artists will be remunerated for their work in short term projects). An artist's residency will be available at the Meantime space in Cheltenham.

the open west is supported by Arts Council South West, Gloucester County Council, Cheltenham Borough Council, the University of Gloucestershire, Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum and Ecotricity
